Cantagrians Association

Formed in 1929, the Cantagrians' Association is a group of people that brings together students and staff of Hadlow College and its predecessors, The Sittingbourne Farm Institute and the Swanley Horticultural Institute. The name "Cantagrian" was invented in 1930 and is based on the Roman name for Kent (Cantium) and "agrarian" to denote the agricultural roots.

Since their formation the Cantagrians' Association have developed and retained a close link with the College. By joining the Cantagrians you can benefit from:

  • An annual dinner and tour around the Hadlow College site
  • A reunion on the last day of the Kent Show
  • A journal and three newsletters each year with a list of members

Part of the relationship between the College and Cantagrians includes the formation of ‘The Garner Bursary Fund' to honour the first Principal of Hadlow College, Ken Garner. This Fund is just one of the ways this group of alumni are assisting today's students.

The Cantagrians' Association has many high-profile members including local landowners, farmers, growers and businessmen and the current committee contacts include:
Angus Campbell, Chairman
J. Ralph Stevens, Vice Chairman
Bryan Smith, Treasurer
Timothy Firmston, Secretary

Should you wish to make a donation to the Garner Bursary Fund, or are interested in benefitting from being a member of the Cantagrians' Association please contact the Secretary of the Association, Timothy Firmston, via the College address.

UK Groups

We are pleased to support groups who wish to set up a branch of the Alumni Association. It's a great way for like-minded people to meet, socialise and find lost acquaintances. Please contact the group directly for more information regarding their membership.

If you are interested in setting up your own group, or need a venue for a reunion please email our Alumni Co-ordinator
