Students
Campus Life
There is much more to being a student than studying which is why at Hadlow we offer a range of different activities and encourage you to become involved.
The Students’ Association
Acting as the focal point of student life and social hub of the College, the Students’ Association exists to ensure that:
- Your views are listened to through forums and an annual conference
- Recreational needs are met as closely as possible
- The campus is welcoming to all; celebrating equality and diversity through charitable and promotional events
- All students know how to stay safe and healthy, contribute to the local community, are financially secure and experience enjoyment and achievement in all they do
The range of entertainment varies each year depending on the interests of the students. Successful events have included: film nights; quiz nights; karaoke; discos and live music in the bar. Other regular features are the Winter Ball, Summer Ball, Summer BBQ and RAG week.
Elections to the Students’ Association Executive Committee are held every October with all members invited to stand for election, or vote. If elected, you will be part of a team which regularly meets with College staff to discuss issues important to the wider student population.
Eat, drink...
The College restaurant promotes healthy eating and offers a selection of meals ranging from the traditional meat, potatoes and two vegetables to pasta bakes, salads and fruits as well as curries and fish and chips. Regular theme days take place throughout the year for events such as Chinese New Year, St Patrick’s Day and Christmas. The shop, which is open on weekdays during term time, additionally sells sandwiches, snacks and other essentials.
The campus is also host to Broadview Gardens and Garden Centre which has its own tearoom. Serving home-made soups, jacket potatoes and a selection of cakes and baguettes, it offers an affordable alternative to the College restaurant.
If you wish to venture further afield the village plays host to several restaurants and takeaways, including a very popular fish and chip shop. The local towns of Maidstone, Tonbridge and Royal Tunbridge Wells also have a wide variety of cafés and restaurants.
...and be merry
Hosting some of the best live acts from around Kent, the College bar offers a comfortable atmosphere where students can relax in an informal environment. The entertainment caters for a wide variety of tastes and includes quiz nights and themed discos.
Throughout the year departments host a range of events including horse shows and evenings with guest speakers, as well as more seasonal offerings such as Tonbridge carnival and summer fetes.
Sports
The Student Support Services Team organise a variety of enrichment activities, the majority of which are free to join. Some of the most popular include football, rugby, netball, karate, tennis, tai chi, cycling and Treejumpers. Additionally many sports clubs and teams regularly participate in competitive fixtures against colleges from around the local area.
The Wellness Hub
Recently updated with a range of modern equipment, the Wellness Hub was re-opened at the beginning of 2008. All students are actively encouraged to use the facilities on offer. These include a range of cardiovascular resistance machines such as treadmills, cross-trainers, exercise bikes and rowing machines as well as weight training facilities.
