Current Sustainable Projects at Hadlow College

Some of the projects Hadlow College is currently doing to make their campus more sustainable.

Although there were already a number of recycling points throughout the Hadlow College campus, we responded to student requests for more recycling points and introduced more facilities around all our sites, including all the student kitchens.  We employed a recycling assistant for 6 months through the Future Jobs Fund scheme, which was so successful that we offered him a contract once his placement ended.  He reports that not only are the bins used regularly, they also have the correct items in them - on the whole.  We then ensure the recyclable materials are disposed of correctly.  This initiative has reduced the amount of waste that goes to landfill, increased the amount of material that is recycled and provides a visible reminder to encourage staff and students to act in a sustainable way.

We have also applied for an updated Carbon Trust audit to help identify other projects that will increase our sustainability.

Finally, with the launch of the Rural Regeneration Centre we are concentrating on promoting it as a sustainable centre which can provide training and seminar rooms.
