This highly practical course is an ideal starting point for those students with little or no qualifications. Covering the basics of handling, feeding and the setting up of accommodation for a wide range of species, this course will enable you to learn how to work safely, care for and maintain animal accommodation in our custom built animal management unit.

Entry Requirements

Students should be at Entry Level 3 or working towards Level 1.

Additional Experience
Students should have a keen interest in the subject.

Course Content

  • Safe and effective work practices in land-based industries
  • Develop performance in land-based industries
  • Introduction to animal species
  • Assist with the care of animals
  • Assist with feeding and watering animals
  • Assist with the movement, handling and accommodation of animals
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of animal accommodation

Assessment Method
Short multiple-choice examinations, plus a portfolio of evidence will be marked by an external examiner.

Progression Routes
Successful students can further enhance their skills by enrolling onto the First Diploma in Animal Care or, should they wish to, progress straight into industry.

Specialist Equipment Needed
You will need steel toe-capped boots, waterproof clothing and Hadlow College jumper and t-shirt.
