This highly practical course is an ideal starting point for those students who have little or no formal qualifications and want to make a career in horticulture. You will be introduced to plants, shown the correct way of caring for them and learn how to identify a number of different plants from seed, take cuttings and look after them whilst they develop.

Entry Requirements

Students should be at Entry Level 3 or working towards Level 1.

Life experiences and subject interest will be taken into account when considering applications.

Canterbury, Hadlow, Medway - Cozenton Nursery, Rainham

Course Duration
1 year, 3 days per week.

  • Safe and effective work practices in land-based industries
  • Develop performance in land-based industries

  • Use transport to assist with the maintenance of tools and equipment.

Assessment Method
Short multiple-choice examinations, will be marked by an external examiner.

Progression Routes
Successful students can further enhance their skills by enrolling onto the First Diploma in Horticulture or, should they wish to, progress straight into the horticulture industry.

Specialist Equipment Needed
Steel toe-capped boots and waterproof clothing.
