Formerly known as the NVQ, this course develops the essential skills and knowledge needed to work in this specialist sector and is ideal for students who are currently employed as groundsmen or greenkeepers. You will gain an understanding of the different stresses the playing surfaces experience and how you may effectively maintain them. Throughout this corse safe working practices will be a central theme. Training will take place in the workplace at a suitable time arranged with your assessor.

Students must be employed or in a 1 year work placement within the industry.

Course Duration
Diploma: 1 year flexible delivery with some college attendance. Apprenticeship: 15 months flexible delivery with some college attendance.

Course Content

  • Monitor and maintain health and safety
  • Develop personal performance and maintain working relationships

Plus a choice of 5 units which are most relevant to your area of work. Some of the units include:

  • Establish plants outdoors
  • Maintain health of sports turf
  • Present, maintain and repair sports turf surfaces for play
  • Use and maintain equipment and machines
  • Prepare and operate a tractor with attachments
  • Present and maintain artificial surfaces

 

 

Assessment Method
Diploma: portfolio of evidence and practical assessment. Apprenticeship: portfolio of evidence, practical assessment and on-line tests.

Progression Routes
Successful students can progress their career with their employer.
