The College is also a member of the Royal Horticultural Society; NCCPG and the Hardy Plant Society.

Formerly known as an NVQ, this course builds on the previous levels. Students will benefit from a blend of theory and practical assessments all aimed at maximising their potential. You will be responsible for much of your own learning and evidence generation with the assessors providing guidance and input where necessary. In addition, this course can be tailored specifically to examine the issues within the nursery stock; glasshouse or fruit sectors. Training will take place in the workplace at a suitable time arranged with your assessor.

Entry Requirements

NVQ level 2 or equivalent is desirable.

Additional Experience
Students must be in a position of responsibility within the industry.

Course Duration
18 months flexible delivery with some college attendance.

Course Content

  • Promote the growth and development of crops
  • Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security
  • Develop personal performance and maintain working relationships
  • Receive, transmit and store information within the workplace
  • Plan and manage the control of pests, diseases and disorders
  • Support the efficient use of resources (management standards)

Plus a choice of 3 units which are most relevant to your area of work. Some of the units include:

  • Plan and maintain the harvesting of intensive crops
  • Plan and manage propagation from seed
  • Plan and maintain the production of plants by vegetative methods
  • Control the planting of crops
  • Control the preparation of a site for planting
  • Lead the work of teams and individuals to achieve objectives

Assessment Method
Portfolio of evidence, practical assessments, projects and assignments.
