INTRODUCTION
Thank you for applying to join our Horticulture Course at Hadlow College. We are really looking forward to meeting you. Please arrive at our reception in Garrad House at your allocated interview time
This course covers a wide range of Horticultural subjects and is aimed at four distinct careers paths within the Horticultural industry; production horticulture, garden design, hard and soft landscaping, and garden amenity maintenance. On completion of the course the students will have the knowledge and skills to start their own garden maintenance company, undertake site surveying and garden design briefs for clients, grow a variety of crops in an environmental commercial situation for clients/garden centres and to landscape clients' gardens from building walls, nurseries, concreting, raised beds, fencing and paving.
Students will, as part of the course, have responsibility to maintain the public gardens at Broadview, as well as be involved in the new gardens, working in our new commercial model glasshouse and nursery, and our sustainable research orchard. They will gain supervisory experience through assisting some groups within the gardens and be responsible for some horticultural crop production.

We would like to see a copy of your most recent school or college report (for applicants aged under 19 year). If you have been issued a predicted grade sheet, then please also bring this with you. If you have already completed a qualification, please bring confirmation of the grade with you.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE DAY?
You will be met at reception by one of our lecturers who will walk you through the campus and gardens back to the horticultural centre. You may be with other interviewees at this stage. We will share a short presentation with you and anyone who has come along to support you. We will then carry out the interview process which will include a range of questions to help us to assess the correct course for you. Naturally you are free to ask any questions of us too! You will also be given a guided tour of our excellent teaching facilities on campus.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO PREPARE
Please take some time to consider which aspects of horticulture appeal to you, and what your plans for the future might be. Please also make sure you wear sensible footwear when you attend your interview, as you will be given a tour of the gardens.

We are delighted to offer you an interview for one of our courses at Hadlow College, we will do everything we can to help put you at ease during your interview process and during your time at college. Hadlow College will offer you many opportunities to develop your skills while working in our brand new computer controlled glasshouse where we grow a range of crops including tomatoes on a hydroponic system. Our polytunnels are also used by students to produce a range of plants which are sold to the public but also planted in our own 10-acre public gardens where you will develop a range of skills in our mixed style gardens. Our varied resources also include an orchard and vineyard with robotic sprayers, drones, plastic culture all being used to grow apples, plums, cherries, apricots and grapes for wine. You will have a fantastic time with us and we can’t wait to welcome you to Hadlow.
