Food 4 Thought Hampton Court Garden

Innovative Garden Designed to Showcase Kent as the 'Garden of England'

Designed to promote and celebrate the importance of Kent as the ‘Garden of England', this year's Hampton Court entry by Hadlow College showcases the production of a diverse range of fruit crops against a background of climate change, food miles and the importance of water as a commodity.

It features a modern courtyard garden with an outdoor cantilevered dining table and ribbons of vertically-grown strawberries as a focal point. Crops that have traditionally been grown in Kent have been used in the garden, but if you look through the window you'll see to see a selection of Mediterranean plants, highlighting the potential to adapt crop selection as a result of global warming.

Designed by Mandy Buckland, ex-Hadlow College degree student and built by current BA (Hons) Garden Design degree students, this garden highlights the sustainability issues which the College is internationally known for and has successfully incorporated a historical look, as well as future predictions, at the crops which Kent is famous for.
