Gold Medal for Wendy Allen at Hampton Court
Wendy Allen has won a prestigious Gold Medal at this year's Royal Horticultural Society's Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.
Her design, ‘THE RAIN CHAIN', sponsored by Hadlow College and Westgate Timber, was also judged to be Best Sustainable Garden in the new Small Sustainable Gardens category.
The green roof features drought tolerant plants that will benefit butterflies, bees and other forms of wildlife thus increasing the biodiversity needed to secure a sustainable future for threatened species. Plants in the rain garden have been specifically selected for their ability to tolerate short periods of both waterlog and drought. The practical parking space within the garden is occupied by an environmentally friendly small electric car.
