Floristry Lecturer’s Outstanding Achievement

Neil Bain, a dedicated and passionate floristry lecturer at Hadlow College, is one of just 19 people in the Country to achieve the Level 5 Master Diploma in Professional Floristry (MDPF).

The course, which was introduced in 2007, is an internationally recognised qualification and the most advanced attainable in floristry.

Achieving the qualification was no mean feat, Neil had the challenge of a round trip of over 500 miles every third weekend for his studies which lasted for 18 months.

In July this year Neil sat two 4½ hour exams which he described as daunting. Neil excelled and was awarded a distinction for the practical exam which required students to produce 5 floral designs and categorise them.

As well as attending College there was coursework to do at home on top of being a full-time lecturer at Hadlow. The effort was worthwhile, Neil says "I am thrilled to have achieved it, not only have I developed my knowledge and skills, it has also given me a new perspective on floristry and the way in which I teach".

Neil is keen to pass on his new skills and knowledge through his teaching at Hadlow College. The Floristry department are involved in many exciting projects and hope to offer the level 5 qualification in 2010.
