Horticulture impacts on many areas of our lives and offers a number of fascinating job opportunities. By taking a course at Hadlow College you will develop a wide range of skills and be in a prime position to take advantage of the global opportunities which exist.
You will be able to choose between courses that specialise in the leisure aspects of horticulture, such as sports
turf or landscaping, as well as those which are more focused on plant and fruit production. Benefiting from highly practical training which is fully underpinned by a theoretical scientific understanding, a successful horticulturalist will play a major role in all areas concerned with the management and maintenance of the environment in which we live.

Oliver Ramsey
National Diploma in Horticulture
After unexpectedly working for HRH The Prince of Wales in his garden at Highgrove, I was inspired to learn more. Hadlow was known by my part-time employer as being a brilliant horticultural college.
Throughout the course there is a good balance of practical lessons combined with classroom theory. The on-site facilities also help with this; we can see how commercial nurseries work and look around the landscaped gardens.
Socially there is a lot to do with activities ranging from rugby through to line-dancing. Within the student bar there is a great community atmosphere.
Once I finish my course I want to carry on learning, maybe progressing onto a degree in either Garden Design or Sustainability. There is so much more that I can learn. However, I do feel that the knowledge I’ve gained already will help me go straight into a job should I wish to
do so.
The Department's View...
Students leave Hadlow with a wide range of skills and the ability to work anywhere in the world. Our expert staff, together with the extensive glasshouse facilities, ensure that students train in a commercial setting and benefit from an atmosphere which is friendly and supportive.
Your Future Career...
Upon completing your qualifications, some of the careers open to you include landscape building, head gardener, horticultural technicians and market gardeners, as well as the many ancillary roles such as technical sales and marketing. You may also wish to study further by enrolling on one of our higher education programmes.
