Students benefit from the College's links with approximately 150 employers throughout Kent. These companies typically include garden centres, town councils, golf clubs, landscape services, growers, pet centres and farms.
More than 23% of businesses throughout the South East are based in rural areas with less than half of those engaged in traditional farming. Their remote locations, shortage of skilled labour as well as a variety of marketing and planning issues, ensures that these businesses have a need for specialised skills and understanding.
By studying a land-based business qualification at Hadlow, you will benefit from out tutors' unique knowledge of the industries they serve and gain a solid foundation into the different disciplines needed to ensure your business grows. You will learn how to create, satisfy and maintain a profitable customer base, developing skills which can be transferred to any company or sector.

NVQ in Retail Skills
Having always wanted to work in the retail side of horticulture, Hadlow College seemed the obvious choice, especially since they are known as one of the best colleges in the UK for horticultural courses.
It’s great here. As part of my course I need to be in a relevant job so I have been working in Broadview, their on-site garden centre. I really like working with customers, helping them if they have any questions and generally being there for them. My course is all about fulfilling their needs and acting in the right manner towards customers, so it’s good to be able to put it into practice.
Living on-site I get to enjoy the atmosphere and think it’s a fantastic place to live as well as study. Everyone is really helpful and there is such a variety of different courses on offer.
Going forward I want to keep studying and progress further. The course has really filled me with confidence and I think I’m much more capable now of handling different situations with a range of customers.
