This highly practical course in agricultural and environmental studies is suitable for students with little or no formal qualifications who are looking to enter the land-based sector. Vocationally focused, you will learn how to work safely, care for animals and maintain structures as well as gain first hand experiences of working on and around farms.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to the curriculum area and have 2 GCSEs at D - E or have evidence of having studied at Entry L3.

Course Content

  • Safe and effective working practices in land-based industries
  • Develop performance in land-based studies
  • Introduction to wildlife and conservation
  • Use transport and assist with maintenance of tools and equipment
  • Introduction to crop systems
  • Assist with the movement, handling and accommodation of animals
  • Carry out tractor operations
  • Functional skills

Assessment Method
Short multiple-choice examinations, plus a portfolio of evidence and two short examinations marked by an external examiner.

Progression Routes
Successful students can progress onto the First Diploma in Countryside Management or, should they wish to, progress straight into industry.

Specialist Equipment Needed
You will need steel toe-capped boots, wellington boots, waterproof clothing and Hadlow College overalls.
