FdSc FISHERIES MANAGEMENT

Focusing on the preservation of fisheries and fish husbandry, this programme develops multi-skilled graduates suitable for a number of positions throughout the industry. You will gain a comprehensive grounding in fisheries management, aquatic ecology and aquaculture.

Entry Requirements

120 UCAS points made up from A levels, preferably one in a Science based subject, or a relevant Level 3 vocational qualification.  All applicants should also have a GCSE grade C or above in English, Maths and Science.

Course Duration
Full time: 2 years, 2 days per week. Part time: 3 years, 1 1/2 day per week.

  • Fishery management practices 1
  • Principles of ecology
  • Fish farming and aquaculture
  • Principles of management (land-based)
  • Work-based learning

 Year 2

  • Fishery management practices 2
  • Research skills and nutritional analysis
  • Environmental management
  • Applied enterprise management
  • Work-based learning

Over the two years, each summer term will be spent working in the fisheries industry.

 

Assessment Method
Coursework (written assignments, projects, presentations and work based assessment) as well as end of unit examinations.

Progression Routes
Successful students can progress onto a relevant BSc (Hons) programme. Alternatively, they may pursue a career in a number of positions throughout the industry.

Specialist Equipment Needed
Protective clothing and footwear in a dark colour, chest waders or a dry suit and neoprene gloves.
