Formerly known as an NVQ, this course develops the essential skills and knowledge required to work in production horticulture can can be tailored to specifically examine the issues within the nursery stock, glasshouse or fruit sectors. Training will take place in the workplace at a suitable time arranged with your assessor.

Students must be employed or in a 1 year work placement within the industry.

Course Duration
Diploma: 1 year flexible delivery with some college attendance. Apprenticeship: 15 months flexible delivery with some college attendance.

Course Content

  • Monitoring and maintaining health and safety
  • Maintain and develop personal performance
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Clearing horticultural and landscaping sites
  • Establishing crops or plants in growing medium

Plus optional units relevant to the industry within which the candidate works, e.g. installing drainage systems, install hard standing sub-layers and maintain moisture levels for crops or plants.

Assessment Method
Portfolio of evidence, practical assessments, projects and assignments.

Successful students can progress their career with their employer.
