The College is also a member of the Royal Horticultural Society; NCCPG and the Hardy Plant Society.

Formerly known as an NVQ, this course builds on the previous levels. Students will benefit from a blend of theory and practical assessments all aimed at maximising their potential. You will be responsible for much of your own learning and evidence generation with the assessors providing guidance and input where necessary. In addition, this course can be tailored specifically to examine the issues within the nursery stock; glasshouse or fruit sectors. Training will take place in the workplace at a suitable time arranged with your assessor.

Entry Requirements

Level 2 Award, Certificate or Diploma in Work-Based Horticulture or equivalent is desirable.

Additional Experience
Students must be in a position of responsibility within the industry.

Course Duration
18 months flexible delivery with some college attendance.

Course Content

  • Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security of the workplace
  • Estimate and programme resource requirements for landscaping
  • Manage your own resources
  • Provide nutrients to plants or crops
  • Monitor the development of crops or plants
  • Plan and manage the control of pests, diseases and disorders

Plus optional units relevant to the industry within which the candidate works, e.g. installing drainage systems, maintain irrigation systems and apply consumer legislation in a horticultural retail environment.

Portfolio of evidence, practical assessments, projects and assignments.
