LEVEL 3 AWARD, CERTIFICATE OR DIPLOMA IN WORK-BASED AGRICULTURE (LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION)

- 170 hectare fully functioning commercial farm with an additional 50 hectares of grazing land.
- 200 hectares of land for arable teaching purposes on a neighbouring farm

Industry Links
Students benefit from close ties with regional aocieties and farming clubs as well as organisations such as the National Farmers' Union (NFU), the Young Farmers, DEFRA, and RABDF. In addition, students are encouraged to attend relevant industry conferences and exhibitions.
Formerly known as an NVQ, this course builds on the previous competencies aimed at enabling students to benefit from a blend of theory and practical assessments to maximise their potential. You will be responsible for much of your own learning and evidence generation with the assessors providing guidance and input where necessary. In addition, this course can be tailored to specifically examine the issues within beef, sheep, dairy, pig or poultry sectors. Training will take place in the workplace at a suitable time arranged with your assessor.
Entry Requirements Applicants should have 4 GCSEs at grades A* - C, 2 of which must be English, Maths or Science or have a full level 2 qualification at Merit in a relevant subject.
Additional Experience
Students must be in a position of responsibility within the industry.

Course Duration
18 months flexible delivery with some college attendance.
Course Content · Promote, monitor and maintain, health, safety and security · Communicate information within the workplace · Maintain and store records within the workplace · Establish, monitor and maintain appropriate conditions for livestock · Deliver basic treatments to livestock · Deliver routine husbandry procedure · Maintain, monitor and evaluate the provision of feed and water to livestock Plus optional units relevant to the industry within which the candidate works, e.g. establish, implement and evaluate a herd breeding plan, carry our and complete the shearing of livestock and establish and monitor the hatching and despatching of poultry.

Portfolio of evidence, practical assessments, projects and assignments.
Progression Routes
Successful students can undertake, at an additional cost, FEPA sprayer courses, courses in forklift and tractor operations as well as practical tests in livestock husbandry and machinery operations.

Protective clothing and footwear.
