Supporting Our Students

Equal opportunities

At Hadlow, we provide an environment where equality of opportunity is offered to all and diversity is celebrated. We expect anyone entering the College to share this view and contribute to making the College a welcoming and inclusive place where everyone is treated with respect.

Our equal opportunities policy is regularly monitored and covers our rules and guidance for dealing with any form of harassment or discrimination. We are happy to make this available on request.

Tutorial support

At the start of your course you will be assigned a personal course tutor who will support and monitor you during your time with us.

One-to-one tutorials are held regularly throughout the year and provide an opportunity to discuss careers, health and social education as well as your academic progress. Group tutorials are structured to support the Every Child Matters agenda, and activities are designed to enable students to fully participate in a range of subjects. A diverse range of external guest speakers are invited in to support the tutorial programme. During the autumn term we hold an academic review evening so that parents and guardians have the opportunity to find out about their child's progress.

Careers & guidance

Our careers advisor works in partnership with Connexions to help ensure that all students benefit from effective careers guidance, either to continue in a vocational area or to progress onto an alternative career path. Mature students also benefit from our partnership with Adult Careers Guidance. We regularly hold careers events, offer one-to-one consultations and work with Aim Higher to help students progress into higher education.

Within the library there are a range of specialist papers and journals which detail the variety of jobs available and often have recruitment pages.

Additionally each curriculum area has a noticeboard where job opportunities are posted.

Counselling

Available to all students, our counselling service provides free and confidential help with personal problems. Appointments can be booked through your course tutor or the Student Support Services Team. Alternatively the counsellor can be contacted direct by post.

Health education

We are proud to be a "healthy college" and run a programme of courses covering health education, drug and alcohol awareness and first aid throughout the year. Our restaurant offers a healthy option with every meal and vending machines contain a healthy alternative. We encourage physical health and provide a range of sports activities and fully-equipped gym - The Wellness Hub - where instructors can design individual fitness programmes and offer nutritional advice.

Child care

Hadlow Community Pre-School - owned by the College - provides a safe and fun environment for children aged between 2 and 5 years old to learn.

Located in the village it is just a few minutes walk from the College. Support is available for children aged 3 and over through Kent County Council and, in addition, students at the College may be eligible for help with the pre-school fees through our means tested Access Fund.

Religious and spiritual beliefs

We welcome students from all faiths and spiritual traditions. Within the College we can make available a multi-faith prayer room and can assist you in making contact with local faith groups.
