On the 14th January, we welcomed Pete Harding & Simon Batty from Maple Associates to deliver a session to our Level 3 year 1 and 2 Agricultural Engineering students on the importance of the role of service technicians in the industry.
Our students learnt how the role has changed and grown in a dealership - and when the paperwork is done efficiently and correctly, how much time can be saved and revenue earned. They also learnt the importance of the customer-facing aspect of the role, and how vital customer interaction can be in making or breaking a dealer/customer relationship.
Also interesting to note was how dealerships in this day and age are working to really tight margins and profit is very small - food for thought for the students, whether their chosen vocation is working for a dealership, manufacturer or self-employed.
Steve Pike, Machinery Lecturer and Commercial Events Manager, said: “This session provided some valuable industry insights, delivered in an easily digestible format by Pete and Simon. Our thanks also go to Steve Day, service manager at Agwoods, for arranging Simon and Pete to come to us and also using his expert knowledge of the industry to give relevance to the session.”
