The College's excellent land-based facilities are used extensively throughout the duration of this course, which ensure our students develop good vocationally practical and employability skills. This course is designed to allow students interested in a career in the rural sector to develop the confidence, ability and skills they need whilst studying or working.

Students are able to access a range of additional learning support, based on need and are well supported through the use of virtual learning resources. A range of employability skills will be developed whilst on the course including practical skills, communication, and land-based specific knowledge, and development of ICT skills. Students will also get the opportunity to carry out a work placement block week at Princess Christian’s Farm and in the lambing sheds.

The course will make use of the College farms. The course is aimed at someone who wants to either gain employment in the Agriculture industry or progress onto another higher level Agriculture course.

The course is delivered through a range of practical sessions using the farm facilities at Blackmans Dairy and Faulkner Farm. There are some classroom based sessions. Assessment is through a range of styles including practical assessments, photographic and video evidence logs, workbooks and written assignments.

Once completed students can progress onto a Level 2 qualification.

Steel toe-capped boots, wellington boots, waterproof clothing, Hadlow college t-shirt, jumper and overalls.

The course structure is a mixture of land-based subjects, the following are examples of some of the topics students can expect to study:

• Being organised
• Developing a personal progression plan
• Working with others
• Researching a topic
• Finding out about the land-based sector
• Caring for and feeding animals
• Moving and accommodating animals
• Growing plants
• Using workshop tools in a land-based setting
• Preparing soil for planting
