This course is designed to allow students interested in a career in the rural sector to develop the confidence, ability and skills they need whilst studying or working.

The College’s excellent land-based facilities are used extensively throughout the duration of this course, which ensure our students develop good vocationally practical and employability skills. This includes the well-stocked floristry classrooms and our on-site commercial florist, Broadview Florist.

The course has a high practical element and focuses on the wide variety of retail floristry design.

A range of employability skills will be developed whilst on the course including practical skills, communication, floristry specific knowledge and development of ICT skills. The course is therefore aimed at someone who wants to either gain employment in the floristry industry or progress onto another higher level floristry course.

Students are able to access a range of additional learning support, based on need and are well supported through the use of virtual learning resources. Students will also get the opportunity to carry out work placement at our commercial florist.

• Safe and effective working practices
• Develop performance in land-based industries
• Work experience and employability skills
• Transportation and maintenance of equipment and supplies
• Maintenance of structures and surfaces
• Assemble basic floral designs
• Planting and establishing plants
• Functional skills/GCSE - English and maths

Assessment consists of practical assessments in class and the production of a portfolio of written and photographic evidence.

Once completed students can progress onto a Level 2 qualification in Floristry or gain employment in a range of opportunities including retail florist shops, flower wholesalers, supermarket flower concessions, flower stalls.

Entry requirements

Minimum of 2 GCSEs at D - E / 3 – 2 Grade or equivalent (Entry Level 3).

You should also have a keen interest in the subject and demonstrate a commitment to the curriculum area.
