Edexcel Functional Skills Mathematics is a linear course, focused on the application of maths skills in everyday life.
Assessment consists of an externally set and marked, 90 minute exam where the use of a calculator is permitted. The exam can be online or paper based.
The programme develops skills in the following areas:
• Fours rules of number
• Fractions, decimals and percentages
• Ratio and proportion
• Graphs and charts
• Using measures
• Area perimeter and volume
• Peer assessment
• Independent learning
Functional Skills Mathematics provides a strong foundation and will develop employability skills. It will prepare for further academic and vocational studies and can support progress to a full range of courses in further and higher education. This includes GCSE Mathematics courses, as well as courses in other vocational disciplines.
You require the following equipment:
• a calculator
• pens highlighters (three colours) and pencils
• a file to keep your work safe
Access to revision guides and texts books, further resource are available on MOODLE to be used throughout the duration of the course.

Functional Skills Mathematics will develop and build on current skills and develop the ability to apply these skills to everyday situations for example. Redecorating costs, managing your money and bills.
The college has excellent resources and these can be utilised to put the mathematics theory developed into practice.
