This course has a high practical element and is delivered alongside working in industry. Students are required to work in a retail florist shop for one day per week as part of their study programme.

A range of employability skills will be developed whilst on the course including practical skills, communication, floristry specific knowledge and development of ICT skills.

Students are able to access a range of additional learning support, based on need and are well supported through the use of virtual learning resources.

Students will also get the opportunity to carry out work placement at our commercial florist.

The following are examples of some of the topics students can expect to study within the course:

• Health and safety for land-based industries
• Working in the floristry industry
• Customer service
• Caring for and maintaining floristry products
• Floristry design principles
• Preparing to create floristry designs
• Creating floristry designs
• Functional skills/GCSE - English and maths

Assessment consists of practical assessments, photographic and video evidence logs, workbooks, written assignments, year-end synoptic assessment, and online assessments.

Once completed students can progress onto a Level 3 Technical Diploma in Floristry or gain employment in a range of opportunities including retail florist shops, flower wholesalers, supermarket flower concessions, flower stalls.

Small toolbox of basic sundries. Sundries are available to purchase at Broadview Florist. Also the Professional Floristry manual.

Appropriate comfortable, neat and tidy clothing.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of four GCSEs C-D / 4-3 Grade or equivalent (Level 1 Diploma), which must include GCSE in English OR maths A-D / 9-3 Grade or equivalent.
