This is a follow-on course to PA1 and provides training in the use of the ground crop sprayer, as well as looking at how to prepare your equipment, the maintenance of it and its safe use. Please note, the assessment is approximately three hours and is carried out by an NPTC assessor on a one-to-one basis. Prerequisite: PA1 and proficiency in tractor driving.

From 26 November 2015, due to a change in legislation, it will be an offence for anyone to use Plant Protection Products (PPPs) authorised for professional use unless they hold an appropriate qualification in the safe use of pesticides.

Previously, if you were born before 31 Dec 1964 you could use PPPs on your own land without the need for a qualification – this was known as ‘Grandfather Rights’.

Hadlow College offers 3 seperate pesticide courses, awarded by City & Guilds, that meet the legislation for sprayer operators and will entitle you to spray on your own property and on the property of others.

Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides. Comprising of 021649 - City & Guilds Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticide (PA1) and the appropriate application unit (eg PA2 for Boom sprayer pesticide application or PA6a for Hand-held applicators).

Further details of these qualifications can be found on www.nptc.org.uk.

NOTE: a PA1 certificate alone does not permit you to apply pesticides. A certificate for a 2nd practical module such as PA2 or PA6 is also required.

Please note that all programme specifications and course modules are subject to annual change.

Please call us for more information on future start dates beyond those stated above.
