BSc Animal Management
I chose to attend Hadlow College as they offered the course I wanted to study and I enjoyed my 2 years doing the animal management level 3 course previously. I studied Animal Management BSc from 2013 to 2016. A great memory was meeting a great group of people, not just students but lecturers and being able to extend my knowledge in the animal sector.
My favourite aspect of the course was learning about more in depth subjects based around animals such as problem animal behaviour and anatomy.
In order to apply for my job I needed a BSc subject linked to the role. I also needed a wide range of animal care skills, which is what the course provided me. My job involves general animal care of a range of species, from hoof stock to reptiles and small mammals. I need to know about animal nutrition and medical treatments, as well as general health care. I also work with students who have learning difficulties, teaching them animal care skills. Teaching students new skills is very rewarding.
Applying to a course that is relevant to what you want to do in the future is vital and putting 110% effort into the work is very rewarding once you’ve finished. Gaining experience in the sector is also important, so reaching out to companies/jobs relevant to what you want to do in the future is a great step in attaining different skills.
