Agricultural Engineering This course is designed to give students the practical and theoretical knowledge required for higher level study or employment in the land-based engineering sector.

With a range of industry equipment and machinery for you to use, we have the facilities for you to learn, practice, and to master in this exciting profession. This course will help students to develop a range of employability skills that employers in land-based industries require.

You will study the following mandatory content as part of this qualification: -

  • Health and safety for the land-based industries.

  • Land-based engineering workshop practices.

  • Transmission and driveline operation principles.

  • Engine operation principles.

  • Fabrication, cutting and joining.

  • Land-based vehicle electrics.

  • Hydraulic systems.

  • Land-based vehicle and machinery operation.

  • Working in the land-based engineering industry.

There is also a requirement to complete 150 hours of work experience.

You will get lots of practice and support to enable you to develop the required skills and knowledge to prepare you for the learning and end assessments. The college also works with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of the training. This could be in the form of employer visits, guest speakers and attending regional events.

  • What qualification will I gain?

    City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Land-Based Engineering

  • Entry Requirements

    Minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or equivalent, must include English and Maths at GCSE Grade 4 or above.

    You should also have a keen interest in the subject and demonstrate a commitment to the curriculum area.

  • What progression options will I have?

    Successful completion of this qualification will provide you with the opportunity to apply for an apprenticeship in a relevant subject specialist area. In addition, many students transition into full time and part time employment.

  • What costs are involved?

    Tuition Fees: 16-18 - free 19+ £1650 Exam and Registration Fees (payable by all aged 19 and over): £125 This course may also attract additional costs, for example, kit, uniform or books, that all students will be required to pay. Please contact the College for further details.

  • How will I be assessed?

    Assessment is through a range of styles including practical assessments, photographic and video evidence logs, workbooks and written assignments. In addition, students will undertake an externally set synoptic assignment and externally set and marked exams.
