Equine student with horse

Today (6 July) marks the start of National Farriers Week, a time to celebrate and recognise the skill, dedication and expertise of farriers across the UK.

Whether looking after leisure ponies or preparing elite competition horses for peak performance, farriers play a vital role in equine health and wellbeing.

Farriery is both an ancient craft and a modern profession. From carefully trimming and balancing hooves to fitting shoes and treating hoof conditions, farriers combine technical skill with a deep understanding of equine anatomy and movement.

Their work directly supports horse comfort, performance and long-term soundness, essential for everyone from hobby riders to professional trainers.

Here at Hadlow College, we know the value of a good farrier as we offer a range of Equine Management courses, providing extensive facilities for students including two indoor arenas, a large outdoor arena and stabling for 64 horses.

Students have the opportunity to gain hands on practical experience, ride and compete quality horses, gain knowledge and develop practical skills in horse husbandry, horse handling, grooming, application of tack and equipment, feeding and routine yard management and more.
