English and Maths Support at NKC Hadlow College
English and Maths are essential qualifications for progression into further education, higher education, and employment.
At NKC Hadlow College, we are committed to developing these skills within all study programmes to support your academic and career success. We do not offer stand-alone English and Maths courses.
Do I have to study GCSE English and Maths at NKC Hadlow College?
If you join the college without a Grade 4 or above in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your programme. This follows government guidance for students aged 16–18 (or up to 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan) who have not yet achieved these qualifications or an approved equivalent.
English and Maths will be built into your timetable and form a compulsory part of your study programme.
What will my timetable look like?
From September 2026, if you have not yet achieved a Grade 4 or higher in English and/or Maths, you will be required to attend at least 3 hours per week. These will be delivered as dedicated sessions within your timetable and will not clash with your main course.
Attendance is essential, and regular attendance is required to remain on your course.
What level of English and Maths will I study?
NKC Hadlow College students will usually study GCSE English and GCSE Maths.
A small number of learners may begin with Functional Skills Level 1 as a stepping stone before progressing onto GCSE (for learners enrolled on mainly Entry 3 and Level 1 courses and where they have achieved a Grade 2 or below in English/Maths).
