Meet Syrup!
As you may be able to guess by his name, Syrup is a Pancake Tortoise. He hatched 18 months ago at Cotswold Wildlife Park, and now lives with us at Hadlow College. He is adventurous and likes to climb up a mound in his enclosure to look out the window.
Unlike other tortoises the shell on a pancake tortoise is flexible, making them lighter and speedier than other tortoises. The pancake tortoise is native to Tanzania and Kenya. This species is critically endangered in the wild and are under managed breeding programmes in captivity.
Meet Tod!
Tod is an African Civet, named after his African nickname ‘Toddy Cat’. He came from Exmoor Zoo and is now a resident of Hadlow College. He is a named addition on our Dangerous Wild Animals License so there are specific stipulations for working with him, this means students level 3 and above will have access to him. This will allow our students crucial experience in working with a slightly more dangerous species.
The African civet is a large type of civet that lives throughout sub-Saharan Africa. It is regarded as the largest civet-like species in the African continent.
