April is Lawn and Garden Month, a perfect opportunity to recognise the beauty, value, and impact of our green spaces. From back gardens and public parks to sports pitches and landscaped grounds, these areas enrich our lives in countless ways.

Green spaces are more than just attractive surroundings. They offer a place to unwind, provide vital habitats for wildlife, and serve as carefully maintained venues for sport and leisure. They can improve our mental wellbeing, encourage us to be active, and foster a deeper connection with nature.

At Hadlow College, Kent’s only rural and land-based college, we understand that gardens and lawns also make a real difference to the environment. They help clean the air, boost biodiversity, cool urban areas, and reduce the impact of surface water – all essential steps towards a greener, more sustainable future.

If you’re passionate about outdoor spaces, our Horticulture and Garden Design courses offer a hands-on route into a thriving industry.

You’ll train using exceptional facilities, including the UK’s first Centre of Excellence in glasshouse growing, the Thanet Earth Centre of Excellence @ Hadlow College, and our innovative ‘robotic orchard and vineyard’, which showcases the latest in agricultural technology, from automated AI management systems and advanced irrigation to automated fruit picking.

Hadlow College is also part of North Kent College, one of the UK’s leading providers of apprenticeships. At our scenic campus, we deliver a range of specialist apprenticeships related to lawns and gardens.

Recently, one of our learners made history by becoming the first person in England to successfully complete the new Level 3 Advanced Sports Turf Technician Apprenticeship Standard and achieved it with distinction in all areas!
