Hadlow College is celebrating a successful weekend at the Kent County Show after taking home multiple accolades in the livestock competitions and earning praise for the quality of its trade stand area!
The College was based in the heart of the action at the region’s premier showcase for farming, agriculture and countryside life, and, for the first time in several years, it competed in the show’s prestigious livestock classes.
Hadlow’s animals performed impressively in the judging rings, with the Romney pair of yearling ewes taking first place in class, as well as being named Reserve Champion and taking home the Alfred Day Challenge Cup for best novice Romney exhibitor. In the cattle section, ‘Bertie’ (aka Baby Bully) placed second in the Hereford junior bull class, and ‘Princess’, a commercial native beef heifer, also achieved second place in her category.
In addition to success in the ring, Hadlow was also awarded a Certificate of Recognition for Best Agricultural Trade Stand, highlighting the variety and quality of experiences on offer in the College’s marquee.
Visitors across the weekend were able to explore a wide range of interactive activities and experiences, including plant sales, floristry displays, live animal first aid demos, and a showcase of snakes and reptiles from the National Centre for Reptile Welfare (NCRW). Hadlow’s own produce, from apple juice to tomatoes grown at the Thanet Earth Centre of Excellence @Hadlow College, was also available for visitors to sample or take home.
Staff from a range of departments, including Apprenticeships, Careers, and Residential, were on hand throughout the weekend to talk to prospective students and families about the College’s broad offering and specialist focus in land-based education.
Chris Lydon, Vice Principal at Hadlow College, said: “We had a brilliant weekend at the Kent County Show, and it was fantastic to bring home some well-earned prizes. It’s a valuable opportunity to showcase what Hadlow has to offer, and we’re proud to have been part of another great year at the show.”
Taking place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (4, 5, and 6 July) the Kent County Show saw animals, horses, vintage vehicles, retail stands and much more converge on the beautiful surroundings of the Kent Showground for a celebration of the best in the county.
